Wyze - Smart Devices to Improve Your Management of Things....Just a Tap Away
Wyze is a brand of smart devices that I've been using for quite a while now. I've tried their smart plugs, smart cameras, and even the outdoor smart plug, and I still use them today. Some products are outstanding, while others could use some improvement, but the quality compared to the price is quite good. Let's explore a few aspects.
First up are the cameras. For this review, I should note that I've only utilized the Gen 1 cameras. At the time they were released, they were actually quite impressive. The quality wasn't 4k, but it was clear enough to observe what people were doing while they were doing it. I used these cameras for about a year, and the only problem I encountered was some minor connectivity issues, which I would honestly consider more related to the internet rather than the camera itself.
I've also been using the Wyze scale for a short while. Connecting it to the app was surprisingly simple and very user-friendly. The data didn't automatically upload as some might expect, but once you opened the app and allowed the device to connect to your phone via Bluetooth, it was fairly quick - usually under 30 seconds. It also aided in health management by displaying not only weight but BMI too.
The smart plugs were quite impressive. I enjoyed being able to turn devices on and off through the app from anywhere. It was beneficial in two main ways. First, if you have kids, you can manage their devices without being at home. That said, I must note that if your children unplug the smart plug and connect their devices directly, they will still work. However, you will be informed if the plug is disconnected and if any devices are connected to it. It also helps if you forget to turn off or unplug things like hair dryers when leaving the house.
And for my top favorite, the outdoor smart plug. I've extensively used this device, especially during the holiday season. The ability to schedule my Christmas lights to turn on and off made the holidays far easier to manage. I could have them automatically switch off at around 7 PM and then back on at 2 AM, without having to think about it. I also used them for managing my pool for a short period, setting a schedule for the pool pump to turn on and off.
In conclusion, Wyze is an excellent company if you’re looking to create a fully DIY smart home, though I did find that there wasn't an alarm option available when I used the cameras. They are budget-friendly, offer plenty of options, and the quality is undoubtedly worth the price.
